Papain

This compound has proteolytic properties, meaning it can break down the proteins found in foods such as meat and poultry. The study concluded that papain is found in both unripe and ripe papayas, but may have stronger protein-digesting activity in ripe papayas. Papaya enzyme supplements that contain papain may help improve your protein digestion.

Protease

a. Protease (also known as a proteolytic enzyme, peptidase or proteinase) is a type of enzyme that functions mainly to help us digest different kinds of proteins. They break down the bonds by a process known as hydrolysis and convert proteins into smaller chains called peptides or even smaller units called amino acids.

b. They also digest the cell walls of unwanted harmful organisms in the body and break down unwanted wastes such as toxins, cellular debris, and undigested proteins. In this way, protease helps digest the small stuff, so that our immune system can work hard to avoid toxin overload.

Amylase

Amylase is one of the primary starch-digesting enzymes secreted in the body. The primary type of amylase is known as alpha amylase, which hydrolyses (breaks down) the bonds in long starch or glycogen molecules into smaller chains of glucose called dextrins, which are easier to digest.

Lipase

Lipase is an essential enzyme for the digestion of fatty (lipid) substances either in the diet or as a part of normal human metabolism. It is responsible for breaking down (hydrolyzing) fats into smaller components that can readily be absorbed through the intestines.

Cellulase

As we mentioned, cellulase turns cellulose into beta-glucose. This is important to understand when speaking about blood sugar in the human body. Glucose, or blood sugar, is the body’s key source of energy. It can be a problem, though, when we eat simple sugars that quickly elevate our blood sugar levels because the excess is converted into triglycerides and stored as body fat.

Glucose from cellulose is released slowly and should not dramatically increase blood sugar but rather provide a more stable fuel for the body. In addition, the fiber that is not digested by the cellulase can also slow down or decrease the absorption of fats including cholesterol.

Lactase

Lactase is an enzyme that hydrolyzes milk sugar (lactose) into its component parts, glucose and galactose, and assists in the digestion dairy products such as, ice cream, milk and cheese. Nutritionists estimate that 10-20% of the U.S. population is lactose intolerant, meaning they have an inability to break down lactose in many of the dairy products they eat.

Bifidobacterium Lactis

a. Bifidobacterium Lactis is a very powerful transient probiotic bacteria. Scientific studies have proven that B. Lactis enhances immunity, fights tumor growth, improves digestion and can lower cholesterol.

b. animalis/lactis inhabit the intestines & the colon in great numbers. Generally, their job is to break down body waste & the absorption of various vitamins & minerals

Lactobacillis Acidophilus

Research in recent decades has confirmed that supplementing with acidophilus can treat helps our digestion and also treats diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), leaky gut syndrome and reduces lactose intolerance and increases our absorption of calcium, B vitamins and can even improve appetite.

Saccharomyces Boulardii

a. Saccharomyces boulardii, has an indisputable role in the health of the digestive tract in mammals. This yeast is considered a probiotic. “Pro-biotic” literally means “for life.” Probiotics are live organisms, which when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host.” 1 S. boulardii is a non-pathogenic yeast that has been used for over 50 years to treat diarrhea and dysentery. WithoutS. boulardii, our digestive system would be vulnerable to infection, inflammation, and dysbiosis (a microbial imbalance).

b. Researchers have found S. boulardii confers anti-inflammatory protection in our body during an E. coli infection or overgrowth in the bowel. It does so by preventing the secretion of a chemical messenger that activates inflammatory markers in the gut, therefore reducing the severity and toxicity of E. coli invasion by 50 percent.6 Preliminary studies show S. boulardii reduces allergies to dietary proteins especially after recovery from acute gastroenteritis, decreasing the likelihood of persistent diarrhea.

Milk Thistle Seed Extract

The seeds contain the highest concentrations of the active compound, silymarin. Silymarin is an antioxidant that reduces free radical production and oxidative damage. It may also inhibit the binding of toxins to the liver.

Quercetin Dihydrate

a. When taken in small doses, quercetin dihydrate may reduce swelling and inflammation around your joints, which benefits individuals suffering from chronic inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

b. Quercetin is one of the major flavonoids, ubiquitously distributed in (edible) plants, and one of the most potent antioxidants of plant origin (1). Consumption of flavonoids in general and quercetin in particular may be associated with a decreased risk of coronary heart disease and other degenerative diseases.

Rasberry Fruit Powder

a. Red Raspberries rank near the top of all fruits for antioxidant strength, particularly due to their rich content of ellagic acid (from ellagotannins), quercetin, gallic acid, anthocyanins, cyanidins, pelargonidins, catechins, kaempferol and salicylic acid.

b. One of the most promising benefits of red raspberries is that they are significant source of ellagic acid. This substance belongs to the family of phytonutrients called tannins, and is viewed as being responsible for a good portion of the antioxidant activity of this (and other) berries. Ellagic acid has become a known as a possible potent anti-carcinogenic/anti-mutagenic compound.

Pomegranate Fruit Extract

a. A compound found only in pomegranates called punicalagin is shown to benefit the heart and blood vessels. Punicalagin is the major component responsible for pomegranate's antioxidant and health benefits. It not only lowers cholesterol, but also lowers blood pressure and increases the speed at which heart blockages (atherosclerosis) melt away.

b. Not only are pomegranates good for your heart and blood vessels but they have been shown to inhibit breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, leukemia and to prevent vascular changes that promote tumor growth in lab animals.

Turmeric Root Extract

a. Curcumin is thought to be the primary pharmacological agent in turmeric. In numerous studies, curcumin's anti-inflammatory effects have been shown to be comparable to the potent drugs hydrocortisone and phenylbutazone as well as over-the-counter anti-inflammatory agents such as Motrin. Unlike the drugs, which are associated with significant toxic effects (ulcer formation, decreased white blood cell count, intestinal bleeding), curcumin produces no toxicity.

b. Curcumin may provide an inexpensive, well-tolerated, and effective treatment for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) such as Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, recent research suggests.

Bromelian

a. Because it is considered a proteolytic enzyme, Bromelain has the capability to fight off inflammation which may affect the tissues and organs in the body. It helps the body be cleansed from harmful toxins. It also helps prevent blood clotting and improve food and nutrient digestion. Bromelain is also effective in fighting off viral and bacterial activities in the human body.
