4 tips to improve mental focus

If you’re familiar with the hustle, you know Monday is go time. What if 'go time' meant stop? There are strategic ways to get more out of your work and it starts with internalization. If you feed your body adequate nutrients and prepare your mind before a task, you will operate more efficiently.

Think about a basic squat, if you perform it correctly, your entire body is engaged. The movement primarily trains the muscles of the hips, butt, hamstrings and quadriceps (vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius, rectus femoris). If performed correctly, a squat engages the upper body, strengthens the bones, ligaments, and insertion of the tendons throughout the lower body, as well as develops core strength. To successfully execute a squat and move up in weight, your mind has to be fully engaged. Follow these simple tips to improve brain function so you can engage mentally and work more efficiently:

  1. Eat Natural Foods

Unhealthy foods are not easily digested, and when your digestion is disrupted, inflammation occurs. When you have inflammation in your gut (digestive system) that inflammation leaks throughout your body causing full body toxicity. When this occurs, your body has to constantly work to heal itself, leaving you with low energy levels and mental fog.

Consuming healthy, easily digestible foods keeps your gut healthy and your internal system properly functioning. Check out our Greens for an easy way to get your daily nutritional needs and support your body’s internal system.

  2. Reduce Sugar

Sugar has powerful effects on mood and long-term brain health. Since B vitamins are required to metabolize sugar and carbohydrates, sugar consumption can lead to deficiencies in the mood-boosting B-Complex vitamin, leaving you anxious and unable to focus on the task at hand.

A healthy sugar alternative is stevia, a 100 percent natural, zero calorie sweetener. Both the Pro Alpha Protein and Greens are sweetened with stevia. The Protein is a perfect sugar replacement, packed with nutrients, natural sweetness and flavor to kick unwanted cravings and leave your palate satiated.

  3. Eat More Healthy Fats

Your brain is mainly made of fat and cholesterol. Saturated fats make up most of the fatty acids in your brain; so consuming omega-3 EPA and DHA fatty acids from oily fish, grass-fed beef and certain nuts and seeds are critical for overall brain function.

  4. Breathe

Arnold Schwarzenegger was a foundational father of visualization in weight lifting. He knew the importance of mental discipline, and claimed it to be the most significant step towards success. “The body is very important, but the mind is more important than the body.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger

If you’re going to create success, you need to mentally engage, and the best way to do that is, s t o p and breathe. Become aware of your body and focus on capitalizing your current moment. When you internalize, you can move forward externally.
